In a ceremony at the Northfield High School auditorium yesterday, former State Senator Tom Neuville was installed as a 3rd Judicial District judge. It was his last day as a partner in the law firm of Grundhoefer Neuville & Ludescher. (I stole the above photo from Ray Cox’s blog post on the event.)
Congrats, your Honor!
Seeing the judges all together, listening to the people who described the importance of the rule of law and hearing the personal stories reminded me how far advanced this legal system is over the rest of the world. One of the speakers said the US legal system is the envy of the world, and that Minnesota’s judiciary is highly considered within the US. Hearing the oath, in which Judge Neuville swore to uphold the Constitutions of the United States of American and of Minnesota reminded all of us that this is a nation with a covenant more powerful than any subculture, protecting all of us in spite of our own prejudices and strong biases. Congratulations indeed, Judge Neuville.
Also, Tom Neuville is one of five recipients of Minnesota Lawyer’s 2007 “Outstanding Service to the Profession” awards. See link at:

The ceremony and reception were both wonderful, and I was especially touched by Marv Grundhoefer’s heartfelt remarks. Congratulations Tom!
