Carleton College’s recent “Intersections” community newsletter featured construction project updates for a new residence hall and the proposed Arts Union at the old Middle School.
The new residence hall, to be located south of the Language and Dining Center and north of First Street, will begin construction in May 2008, with a targeted completion for Fall 2009. . . The project will allow Carleton to bring back at least 100 students from off-campus housing. . . The project is pursuing LEED Gold level of sustainability.
Visit the project update link above to view PDFs of the architectural drawings for each building and a QuickTime “video fly-through”. Kudos to Carleton for being a good neighbor, and for making this information available to the community.
I like the Arts Union plan! Seems a bit of a shame that almost all of the old building would be coming down (previously, I had only known that the 1954 addition was being torn down), but I really approve of the replacement. It’s awesome to see the new and the old being blended so boldly.
