Northfield High School has a special website for prom this year (coming up on Saturday), and it includes all the details on the Grand March and after-prom party at Jesse James Lanes.
The front window at Econofoods has a “Have a Safe Prom” message, painted by a member of the Mayor’s Task Force on Youth Alcohol & Drug Use, Sharon Henry (right photo) of “I do Windows.”
I know there’s been crashed cars on display in the past but has Northfield High School ever had a Mock crash intended to scare students straight before area proms? (Another example here.)
Yes, they’ve had mock crashes before. I seem to recall they do them every other year.
At the one that I saw (which probably would have been in ’02) I remember they had a few busses blocking the scene of the accident. A loud sound effect of screeching tires and the like was played, and the busses pulled forward, offering a view of some crumpled cars. Emergency services responded as they would have in realtime, with Rice County Sheriff, Northfiled Police, Northfield Fire, etc. showing up on the scene. There was also a medivac helicopter which landed.
It was pretty well done until the end when they played Clapton’s “Tears in Heaven” after one of the victims was deemed expired.
Nick, I fact-checked your story with Sgt. Mark Murphy and it turns out, you’re telling the truth. Thx!
Be sure to notice the seat belts on the Econo Foods window and remember to always buckle up: everybody, every seat, every time.
Have a great prom!
