It’s not listed on the Northfield.org calendar or blog, nor on the Northfield Area Veterans website, nor on the Northfield Chamber of Commerce calendar, nor via a search of the Northfield News website, nor is there a poster or flyer of any kind on the windows of either the VFW Post on Division nor the Eagles / American Legion Club on Water.
But today’s Memorial Day tribute is at 9 am in Veteran’s Memorial Park, at the south end of Riverside Park.
I eventually found the time on page 2 of the print edition Saturday’s Nfld News, in the calendar of events sidebar. It’s incorrectly listed as 8 am in the newspaper’s online calendar of events for May 26.
Why is there no promotion of this event?

See you there!

Last year I watched a Chanel 12 TV presentation of the event. Every time we drive by the memorial, I say a prayer. Every time I meet a man or woman who tells me they have served in the US Armed Forces, I thank them.
Every time I meet a family member who is waiting or has waited for their loved ones to return from engagement in a war, or other service, I thank them, too.
Maybe next year I will be able to attend a service in person, but until then I am doing my thing. Gotta go call a few cousins and my uncle now.
I missed that, Jane. I’ve edited the blog post to include a photo of the back page, plus a photo of page 2 of the paper where the calendar item is, with an arrow pointing to it.
It seems odd to me that the paper has a full-page colored ad (“This page is brought to you by these fine businesses”) to promote the Memorial Day tribute and yet doesn’t have a story or an announcement or press release anywhere else in the print edition.
Allow me to tip my blogger hat to Neuger Communications for donating the printed program for the event (here and here), and to KYMN and Jeff Johnson for covering it live.
My family and I have been attending the Memorial Day service for many years. Prior to being held at Veterans Memorial Park it was held in Bridge Square.
After yesterday’s service I heard so many people comment on how beautiful the Veterans Memorial and Park area truly are. Kudos to the VMP committee who made their dream become a reality.
It seems that the memorial service is growing in the number of attendees each year. What an awesome tribute to the men and women who have served / are serving our country. God Bless them all for all they have and continue to do.
