As one of the participants, it would make sense to out myself and my colleagues. Jessica has it right, we are an ad hoc group working on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce and the NDDC to raise money for new holiday decorations for downtown Northfield. Our goal is raise $20,000 by the end of March so that we can place our order and have the new decorations here in time for installation in November. We're approaching $4,000 and the meeting was our post-holiday session to kick this sucker into high gear. Stay tuned for more information and if you're so inclined, send your contribution in any amount to NDDC, PO Box 55, Northfield, MN 55057 or drop it off at First National Bank on Division Street.

Thanks for the update, Dan. I heard from Ryan Heinritz on the Chamber’s Creative Professionals Committee that they’re scheming to do a fund-raising auction in early April which would funnel money towards the new holiday decorations. You should talk to him. 😉

  6. “The warden threw a party in the county jail…” Yes there is an Amazing Event in the works! I did run into Griff this morning and mentioned to him that yes the Chamber’s Creative Professionals Committee (those folks in charge of the social event of the summer, Golf-A-Palooza) is in fact working on a new event in which auction proceeds are heading in the direction of the Holiday Decorations! So… teaser! Save the Date: Friday, April 3rd, 2009. The Chamber’s Creative Professionals Committee presents, THE AUCTION Jailhouse Rock at The Grand Event Center. A socializing, networking, live auction (and by Live I mean… guess you’ll have to come and see), dance the night away and raise a ton of money to decorate Northfield for the holiday season, not-to-be-missed event. That’s a pretty well written run on sentence yes? Any way, more details to come out soon, but keep your eyes and ears open. Who knows anyone of you reading this might just be “the cutest jailbird I ever did see.”

The Live Auction Fundraiser noted in the News’ article is THE FIRST ANNUAL AUCTION, Jailhouse Rock April 3, 2009 at the Grand Event Center and is presented by The Northfield Chambers’ Creative Professionals Committee. Everyone is invited to this 50’s themed evening of socializing, entertainment, fun… and your chance to bid on well known “Jailbirds” from local Northfield businesses. To date, the ‘notorious jailbirds’ nabbed by the CPC’s officers who will be auctioned off by auctioneer Kevin Dahle are: Jeff Hasse, Christopher Sawyer, Mark Mohlke, Ryan Heinritz, Jon Snodgrass, David Ludescher, Jeff Johnson, Joe Grundhoefer, Chuck Pryor, Tim Viere, Matt and Charlie Sewich to name a few. There are a few ‘infamous folks’ who have not yet been captured so be on the look out as it might just be you. These fine businessmen have kindly donated not only their time but also fabulous BAIL ME OUT OF JAIL packages. Packages such as 5 course meals, to wine parties with live jazz, golf outings, days on the lake, evenings out in the cities. I heard there may even be a trip to Mexico involved. Then after the prisoners have been bailed out it’s time kick off those shoes and hit the dance floor with Scott the DJ. So slick back that hair, roll those T-Shirts, put on the poodle skirt and help celebrate and decorate Northfield!Jailhouse Rock is open to everyone, member and non members, friends and family. There is a discount for Chamber Members and for anyone who registers before March 27th. To Register or for more information contact the Northfield Chamber of Commerce at 507-645-5604.
