Locally Grown now no longer accepting text and banner ads

lg-ad-placement-screenshot-bubbles-800w-84x150 After considerable weeping and gnashing of teeth about the types of ads to offer here on LG, we’ve settled on offering a combination of text and banner ads for both businesses and non-profits. (Ad auctions and advertorials have been shelved for now.) See the revised LG advertising page for details or jump right to the ad purchase page.  Four one-month slots sold yesterday: Knecht’s Nurseries and Landscaping, Contented Cow, Chapati, and the Always Family Center. (Thank you, Deb, Norman and Carl!)  Now, how can we improve the offering?

Your deep satisfaction could be elusive, Norman, but I’ll try. 😉

It’s my observation that in a town like Northfield, very few small non-profits, educational organizations, associations, etc. spend money on advertising to promote their cause/mission etc. So I’d like to break them of this habit and having a couple of ad regions here dedicated to them is one way to do it.

Note, however, that it’s not really an apples-to-apples price break. We sell two slots for left sidebar banner for non-profits, while the smaller right sidebar 125×125 banners for businesses are guaranteed their slot.

    Likewise, the text ads.

    Does that help?

I’ve put up a new blog post (yellow background color, title prefix with the word ADVERTISING) in which I’ve listed the new advertisers plus the current ones, with some updated info on what’s happening on their websites.

I’ve removed the Locally Grown Advertising page and taken down all the ad banners.

After six months, it wasn’t working.

It’s pretty clear that we’d need someone devoted to advertising sales to make it work and we don’t have anybody who wants to do that.

    I’m still scheming, tho!
