Former Northfielder Nick Benson abandoned us for life in the big city a while ago. I’ve pretty much forgiven him. He’s become quite famous for his railroad-related photos. Here are…

We got this email today from Kelly Irvine at Carlson Capital Management. I’ve added some links.
Dear friends at Locally Grown – The 8th annual Northfield Jingle Bell Run/Walk was held on Saturday the 12th and was a great success. We had a super turn out and early numbers indicate that as a community we raised around $3,500 for the HealthFinders Collaborative. The 2009 planning committee sincerely thanks everyone who came out to run, walk or volunteer!

One of the GBM morning regulars, Jose Rodriguez (“Hey you tender white boys!”), alerted me to yesterday’s annual celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe at St. Dominic Catholic Church here in Northfield. (On the church’s Comunidad Hispana web page: “St. Dominic is the spiritual home for the majority of the 1,500 people of Hispanic descent living in Northfield.”)

I agree with Republican activist Andy Brehm who has a commentary in today’s Strib: The Vikings? Great. Gambling? Not good. "Dick Day’s proposal to pay for a stadium with proceeds from a ‘racino’ sounds painless, but would in fact be very damaging." That would be soon-to-be-lobbyist Senator Dick Day.
I also agree with Craig Cox, a former colleague at Utne Reader, who chastised the Strib in his letter to the editor last week for not asking Vikings owner Zygi Wilf some hard questions:
Northfield’s last big ball was the 2005 Sesquicentennial Governors Ball. Next week will rival it: NAG’s Beaux Arts Ball, part of Northfield Arts Guild’s 50th Anniversary season. I’ll be there with my sweetie, hopefully 1) not stepping on her dancing shoes; and 2) taking better photos than this one.
You can purchase tickets online here.

Tiger Woods has not only been a godsend to late-night comedians and cartoonists recently. Someecards has two e-greeting cards that are proving popular.
Since I’m a father, a former family therapist, and now a minister, I’ve been trying to imagine…
