I just found about about the “soft launch” of the new Ron Griffith Young Leaders Fund. I hope it’s not to early to blog it; the hyperlinks are active, so here goes.
The Fund, developed in partnership with the Northfield Area YMCA, was initiated by Just Food to honor Ron’s service on the Just Food Board of Directors and his leadership contributions to the Northfield area community as a whole. (continued)
My wife Robbie and I made our first visit to the Northfield Culver’s last week and met the franchise owners, Tom Zenk and Julie Zenk. I don’t write restaurant reviews but I was impressed by two things: 1) Tom’s Looney Tunes tie; and 2) that they had a bloodmobile drive card (coming Feb. 27, 8am-1pm) on every table. At last week’s Manzone 2009 planning meeting, Mike Herman of Culligan got standing ovation and an award for his contributions of time and manpower for the 2008 and 2009 events. The event is being held this week on Friday, January 30 from 5-9 pm at the Community Resource Bank main branch on Hwy 3. (continued)
It was 23 above this afternoon when I saw downtown Northfield’s mailman, Tom Kotula, making his rounds, suitably attired. The photo is PG-13, parental caution strongly advised.
He wasn’t named in the layoffs article in the Northfield News last week, News eliminates two supervisor positions, but Tim Freeland was their Advertising Manager. I got this email from Tim today:

A reception was held at the State Capitol yesterday afternoon to close out the Sesquicentennial and thank everyone involved. (I blogged a photo album of the event here.) The program included the official sealing of the Sesquicentennial Time Capsule.
Our legislators, Sen. Kevin Dahle and Rep. David Bly, signed a Sesqui banner (I missed the deed) which will evidently be placed in the time capsule, to be opened in 50 years for the State’s bicentennial.
I surprised Mayor Mary Rossing in her store Present Perfect this morning with my video camera. I mostly asked her questions that had to do with Monday night’s City Council meeting, which you can read a bit about here. We touched upon her changes in meeting procedure, her tactics on facilitating meetings and her outlook on information exchange in Northfield and on the financial health of the city’s businesses.
