Podcast: RepJ reporter Bonnie Obremski on her departure from Northfield

Our guest today was Bonnie Obremski who announced that she’s resigned her position as the reporter for the Northfield Representative Journalism project effective Friday. She and her fiancé, Josh Rowan (pictured at right doing a finger puppet show in the KYMN studio window), depart Saturday for Key West, FL. Bonnie will post her own announcement tomorrow here on LG, so I’ve turned off comments on this post. Chime in on her post when you see it… and note the date, time and place of her going-away party on Friday eve.

Ron Griffith, R.I.P.

Word came yesterday that Ron Griffith, former Planning Commission member and co-founder of Just Food Co-op, died peacefully at home in the company of his family. Ron had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, March 28; the details will be determined later. Ron’s family is requesting that people donate to the Ron Griffith Young Leaders Fund (blogged here earlier) in lieu of flowers.

Councillor Betsey Buckheit paid tribute to Ron on her blog, and the notice in the Northfield News provides some brief biographical information about this wonderful man, whom I felt very fortunate to know. (continued)

Our guest yesterday was Hayes Scriven, Executive Director of the Northfield Historical Society. He’s leading a group of Northfield institutions (so far, they’re collaborating) that’s creating an audio walking tour of historical Northfield using some new-fangled technology called podcasting. In true Jesse James fashion, he stole the idea from New Ulm and their video podcast.
