I saw Northfielder Ryan Heinritz working out at the Northfield Athletic Club last night and he had some news: he’d just been selected to be the new Executive Director…

I had a Liberace flashback when Ross began strutting around the GBM this morning in his new NDDC vest, promoting Saturday night’s NDDC 10th anniversary/Partnership Celebration, 6 to 10 p.m at The Grand.
I’ll be there with my sweetie, taking photos.
It’s open to the public, no cover, free d’oeuvres, lots of live music, and a helluva raffle.
Update 2 PM: Here’s the flyer on the raffle
For more details, see Ross’ blog post, or this email from Jessica Paxton:
Last fall, I whined loudly with my Red Cross mishandles a blood donation appointment blog post. Now it’s time for kudos.
Local volunteer Cindy Anderson (pictured here from a 2008 blood drive) phoned me last week about scheduling an appointment for next week’s blood drive. I told her I preferred to make an appointment via their website and she graciously called back a day later with the details. It works slick. A day later, I even used it to change my appointment time. Here are the links/steps:
MPR has a page listing “aid organizations accepting donations for earthquake relief for Haiti.” Two of them have a Northfield connection:
Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) has been the focus of Northfield-based 5th Bridge. See the FMSC Haiti Earthquake Response page. - Northfield native Gary Dahl works for the American Refugee Committee Int’l (ARC). He’s the Country Director for Thailand and was the project leader for the Fishing Boat Project “which distributed more than 360 boats to fishermen in Thailand who lost their fishing boats in the tsunami.”
Also, Jane McWilliams has a Haitian Relief blog post on Northfield.org. Northfielder Paul Miller recommends donations to Partners in Health, as does book author Tracy Kidder whose op-ed piece in today’s New York Times is titled Country Without a Net:

I saw Jane McWilliams’ blog post on Northfield.org about the Blandin Community Leadership Program (BCLP) information sessions held last night in Northfield and Dundas. I attended the one at the Northfield Public Library, along with about 40 other interested folks. Blandin’s Leadership Recruitment Coordinator Becky Adams presented.
Two teams will be selected from the area:
Last week I got emails from Sandy Vesledahl and Bridgette Hallcock at Premier Bank, alerting me to an upcoming pancake breakfast fundraiser for the Rice County Humane Society (RCHS). (Dog photo by Bridgette, taken at last year’s Susan Perry Memorial Walk for Animals.) I assumed they wanted me to blog about it so I pitched them a Locally Grown membership instead:
‘Twould be great to have Premier Bank as a member of LG. Then you could promo events like this as a community service of Premier. Of course, you can also promo bank-related products and services, too.
Sandy then had the brilliant idea of the bank not only buying a Locally Grown membership for themselves but a separate one for RCHS so that they could do their own sidebar membership blog posts.
NAG Board member Steve Engler took dozens of photos at the Beaux Arts Ball on Saturday and gave me a disk of them yesterday. I put on my editor’s hat, tossed/cropped a few, and am now pleased to present them here.
Above: Locally Grown’s propriety guidelines prevent me from publishing the rest of the series of photos of Steve with his wife, Lynn.

Last night’s Beaux Arts Ball, part of Northfield Arts Guild’s 50th Anniversary season, was spectacular. I ratcheted back on the number of photos I took, once I saw that David Henke from the Northfield News and Steve Engler, NAG board member, were also taking lots of photos. I’ll link to their albums when they get them posted. If you were there and have photos, add a comment below with a link.

Ross stopped by my corner office at the GBM yesterday to show me a new NDDC poster that’s a variation on the Be Local…Buy Local campaign: Be Local… Rock Local!…
