Dear friends at Locally Grown – The 8th annual Northfield Jingle Bell Run/Walk was held on Saturday the 12th and was a great success. We had a super turn out and early numbers indicate that as a community we raised around $3,500 for the HealthFinders Collaborative. The 2009 planning committee sincerely thanks everyone who came out to run, walk or volunteer!
Now that Leif Knecht has copious amounts of idle time on his hands, he’s ramping up his efforts to create what he’s calling the Lower Heath Creek Bicycle Pedestrian Trail in Bridgewater Township.
As the map below shows, the trail would loop around Heath Creek south of Old Dutch Road and north of Armstrong Road, adjacent to the Gill-Prawer property that’s currently in annexation negotiations for the development of the West Armstrong Business Park:
Northfield’s last big ball was the 2005 Sesquicentennial Governors Ball. Next week will rival it: NAG’s Beaux Arts Ball, part of Northfield Arts Guild’s 50th Anniversary season. I’ll be there with my sweetie, hopefully 1) not stepping on her dancing shoes; and 2) taking better photos than this one.

We got this via email yesterday from Doug Peterson, retired Northfield Public Schools guidance counselor.
Northfield held its Christmas Sharing program this week that involves a large number of residents. The idea of giving to others in the community started about 40 years ago when Mary Dyer-Bennet and friends collected used toys to be distributed by the Northfield Police Department. This year the expanded project served 363 families with 889 children.
Saturday, Dec. 12 is the annual Northfield Jingle Bell Run/Walk, sponsored by Carlson Capital Management, 5th Bridge, and the American Center for Philanthropy. The HealthFinders Collaborative is this year’s charitable recipient.

I guess the Northfield Hockey Association (NHA) dads are taking the approach that it’s easier to ask forgiveness than it is to get permission. In today’s Nfld News: Despite city’s objections, volunteers build warming house at rink.
Northfielder Dina Fesler, head honcho at Children’s Culture Connection and War Kids Relief, has been in Afghanistan since Nov. 24 to set up operations for a U.S./Afghan Junior Investor Program, traveling and filming with Kelly Kinnunen of NEED Magazine. (More on the WKR blog here.) But life has intervened and she’s now taken on an emergency medical mission.
