Chamber/NDDC ‘Be Local Buy Local’ campaign embraces the local blogosphere

Be Local … Buy Local (BLBL)I’m thrilled to see that the Be Local … Buy Local (BLBL) campaign initiated by the Northfield Area Chamber of Commerce and Northfield Downtown Development Corporation is not only web-savvy but recognizes the role that the local blogosphere plays in both the local economy and the information ecosystem. The HTML code they provide for BLBL images includes these explanations:

The fruits of the Downtown Holiday Decorations Fund are now showing

Downtown Holiday Decorations Downtown Holiday Decorations Downtown Holiday Decorations
Ross has been posting to the NDDC blog all year (eg, here, here and here) about the Downtown Holiday Decorations Fund and yesterday, the decorations (blue banners and lighted snowflakes) were put up all over downtown — big ones on the bigger light poles, smaller ones on the historic light poles. I’ll try to get some nighttime photos this weekend.

Update 11/21: As promised, some night shots:

Video: Anna Balfany performs ‘The Taste’

Taste of Northfield Next Thursday, June 18, is the annual Taste of Northfield event in downtown Northfield. See the NDDC home page for details/large PDF poster.

Griff Wigley, Anna Balfany, Anna Balfany, NDDC board member Anastasia Balfany’s daughter, wrote a song for the event called ‘The Taste.’ She sang it yesterday on the upper deck of The Contented Cow.

Every food I’m tasting
Every line I’m waiting in
Searching vendor to vendor
Hogan Brothers ice cream makes me feel a whole lot better
Stop and grab a smoothie at James Gang
The world’s best desserts at Ole Café
Cheesy, gooey Domino’s pizza
If you’re hot, get an icy at Sweet Pea’s Loft

At Bridge Square it’s The Taste
We hope you’ll be there, I just can’t wait!
What would be a great downtown without the NDDC?
And what would be the Taste of Northfield without anything to eat?
What would be a summer without a hotdog at Tiny’s?
And doesn’t it just make your day when you see Maggie Lee?
It’s the Taste, it’ll be great
At Bridge Square, it’s The Taste

Make sure to stop at Rueb-n-Stein
Their burgers are amazing I’m sure you’ll find
And you just can’t miss the food at the Cow
I guarantee you’re gonna say – delicious!

We hope you’ll be there, I just can’t wait!

Enforcing a ‘community expectations’ policy for downtown

Vandalism At tonight’s work session: “The City Council is being asked to discuss the adoption of a “Community Expectations” policy statement addressing cleanliness, respect, safety, and pedestrian friendliness in the downtown area.” I’ve been whining about graffiti, bikers on sidewalks, and noisy vehicles for a long time. But I’m not sure why public panhandling, swearing, spitting and urinating are included. And if the policy is adopted, what’s implied about enforcement?

Chamber’s Creative Professionals Committee eschews web marketing in favor of sidewalk dancer

IMG_3803 elvispresleyjailhouserock  IMG_3802
In January, I blogged about the planning for tomorrow night’s Jailhouse Rock’ auction which is raising funds for an upgrade on Northfield’s holiday decorations. I thought for sure that the Chamber’s Creative Professionals Committee would have a page up on the Chamber’s website by now, or maybe a quick-and-dirty blog for the event like the Arts Crawl folks have done.

According to Paris SEO, they turned up their collective noses at those old fashioned marketing tools like blogs and Twitter and instead, they’ve found a guy to prance about like Elvis on the sidewalk in front of the Grand. Brilliant!

If you want info on the event, best to check with one of Northfield’s primo bloggers.
